Oman and Saudi Arabia. Yemen is predominantly
mountainous, with the Hadramaut (a range of high
mountains) in the centre of the country. In contrast is
Tihama, a flat semi-desert coastal plain which
lays to the west and is 50-100km (30-60 miles) wide.

Visa
Requirements
Everybody needs a visa to enter Yemen (except
nationals of Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan,
Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and
United Arab Emirates). Tourist visas generally
last one to three months. Business visas and
multiple entry visas (available for 6 months or
12 months) are also available but require a
sponsorship letter from a company in Yemen.
Individuals who wish to work in
Yemen must apply for (the sponsoring company
will actually make the application) and be
granted a work permit prior to commencing work.
A medical is required (including an HIV test)
for the processing of the work permit. Once the
work permit is granted, the applicant is
eligible to obtain a residence permit from the
Immigration Department.
If your passport carries evidence of a visit to
Israel you will not be granted a visa. Entry is
also refused to nationals of Algeria, Egypt,
Libya, Sudan and Tunisia if their journey does
not originate from their home country.
We strongly recommend all visa
regulations are checked with the Yemen consulate
in your country prior to travel. Visa
regulations are subject to change and the above
should only serve as a guide.
Local Laws &
Customs
For the visitor, conservative casual clothes are
suitable but visiting businessmen are expected to wear
suits. Women should dress modestly and beachwear and shorts
should be confined to the beach or poolside. Smoking is
forbidden during Ramadan. Foreigners are requested not to
smoke or drink in public
Driving Licenses An
International Driving Permit is required. A temporary
license valid for three months is available from local
authorities on presentation of a valid national license.
